When we planted the farm plot last spring, we hoped for enough. What we harvested this September was more than enough — it was abundance.
Sixty children helped tend the rows of maize and sweet potatoes through the rainy season. They watered, weeded, and watched. When harvest came, they carried the baskets themselves.
The yield was large enough to stock the kitchen through the dry season and still leave surplus. That surplus went to three neighboring families who had nothing.
The farm program teaches more than agriculture. It teaches the children that their hands can create something from the ground — that they are not only receivers of care, but givers of it too. That lesson, we believe, will stay with them for life.
They carried the harvest baskets themselves — and then shared what was left over.
